Cheeseburger Spring Rolls

Craving a cheeseburger? I have a solution for you! Cheeseburger egg roles are a delicious and legendary snack or meal from a food cart in Adventureland in Magic Kingdom at WDW. The Tropical Hideaway in Disneyland is also known for specialty rolls and lumpias. Although the folding might seem a little intimidating, these beauties are way easier to construct and cook than you can imagine - no fryer needed!

I picked up a package of Nayosa egg roll wrappers from King Soopers with the intention of making something. Looking at some ground meat, pickles, cheese and trying to decide to crank up the heat on my Dutch oven turned deep fryer it hit me. Cheeseburger egg rolls should be super gooey with American cheese and a hint of onion and pickle with the memory of condiments. 

I minced sweet onion and pickle first. I used ground turkey to cut down on the calories for this one but you can use whatever you want. I would not do fattier than an 80/20 though. While the meat was cooking I tossed in the onions so they cooked down in the fat and juices and seasoned with salt and pepper.

Once the meat was cooked and onions were reduced I added 1-2 TBS of ketchup, 1-2 tsp of mustard. You could also customize as this point with garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, ect. I stuck with After the condiments were added I mixed in the pickle. Finally the cheese. We have Kraft American Deluxe slices which were ideal for the super cheesy direction - they melt well and were easy to chop up in little cubes. I used six slices but you could add up to 8 I think without overwhelming things. My husband did request even more cheese...

Following the instructions provided by the package, I loaded one eighth of the mixture in the center of the egg roll wrapper aligned like a diamond. From the bottom I rolled the wrapper over the filled and tucked it in underneath by rolling the filling toward me after it was covered. Each side was pulled in gently until corners touched. I then brushed the top edges with water and continued to roll away from me until it was sealed!

The oven was employed for cooking to minimize clean up. To encourage browning i spritzed then with some cooking oil. After 25 min in the oven the cheeseburger spring rolls were golden brown and crispy! They were the best after cooling for about 5-10 minutes. Super delicious and easy. I would even consider adding a little bacon or BBQ sauce next time!

I whipped up some easy sauces for dipping as well. The first is a combination of mayo, ketchup and mustard in a 2:1:1 ratio with 1/4 tsp of garlic powder. The second is a spicy ketchup with 4:1 ratio of ketchup to BBQ sauce with garlic powder to taste.

Cheeseburger Spring Rolls

Yield 6


  • 1 lb of ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 1 whole dill pickle (or 6 baby dills), minced
  • 2 TBS ketchup
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 6-8 slices of American cheese (Kraft or Velveeta)
  • 8 egg roll wrappers


  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Mince onion and pickle. Cube cheese. Add meat and onions to pan, season meat with salt and pepper. Brown meat and cook onions until soften and reduced. 
  3. Add ketchup, mustard, and pickles and stir to combine. Add cheese and stir until completely melted. 
  4. Spoon eighth of mixture to egg roll wrapper. Bring bottom corner up, fold sides in, brush remaining edge with water and roll away from you to seal. 
  5. Bake for 25 min. Allow to cool for 5-10 min and enjoy!
